There aren’t too many fad diets I haven’t either heard about, read about, researched or laughed out loud at, but here are some of the latest crazy diets to hit my radar:

The blue plate diet: Apparently blue is the least appealing colour for a plate(?!)

Eating off a blue plate is supposed to make you feel less inclined to carry on eating. I’ve eaten off blue plates and it’s done nothing to stop me finishing my meal!

The baby food diet: Believed to give you lots of nutrients in small portions. Hello! It’s baby food! If it were designed for adult consumption it would be in all your cupboards!

The fingernail diet: No, chewing your nails doesn’t count! The deal is you eat something the size of your fingernail every 14 minutes… Give me strength! Maybe a baby mushroom, a raspberry or a cherry will keep you nourished and well fed. I DON’T think so! Besides, who has the time to eat every 15 minutes? Even I don’t eat that often!

The ’smell grapefruit’ diet: Exactly what it states. Researchers speculate that the effect the oil’s smell has on liver enzymes might help fix cravings and spur weight loss. So who wants to walk around town with a grapefruit shoved under their nose all day, in the vain hope that it will stop you wanting to eat? I know where I might stick that fruit…

The Chocolate Cake Diet: Now, before you all get excited, it’s NOT what you think! Yes, there is chocolate cake involved, but the fact is, you DON’T eat it. You’re supposed to stare at that cake for 15 minutes and then down a glass of water. THIS is supposed to fix your cravings! My take on this diet would be to get you to stare at a healthy meal for 15 minutes and then EAT IT!

Face facts folks. EVERY SINGLE FAD DIET ON THE MARKET TODAY IS DESIGNED TO DO ONE THING… TAKE YOUR MONEY!

None of these diets will fix your cravings long term, none of them will help you lose weight or fat long term and none of them are designed to keep you feeling satisfied or happy.

Dieting makes you MISERABLE! The only solution to fat loss is sensible, regular eating and effective exercise! So, next time you’re in the bookstore or eyeing up the latest gossip magazine, refrain from being sucked into these fad diet plans…
